Video Assist app debuts advanced features at NAB 2026 — transform your iPad into a professional on-set monitoring and playback system

For immediate release

Las Vegas, NV, 17 April 2026: Video Assist transforms your iPad into a professional on-set monitor and playback system that’s fast and intuitive. It connects to your camera or wireless system via a UVC capture card and includes essential tools such as LUTs, Live Compositing, Focus Peaking, False Color, Zebras, Video Transform, Grid Lines, Center Marks, Frame Line Masks, Anamorphic Desqueeze and Audio Meters.

The new advanced masks

Today, a major update expands the toolkit further by introducing Advanced Masks, Record Trigger for Canon cameras, Metadata Extraction for RED and Sony Venice, and VTR Reports.

The app is built by Bradley Andrew, an Australian VTR Operator turned solo developer. Drawing on his years of industry experience, on-set testing, and continual iteration, the app delivers the level of polish that working crews expect. By pairing intelligent software with affordable capture cards, Video Assist brings the power of a full video department to productions of any size or budget.

Whats New:

Improved Support for RED and Sony Venice.

Metadata Extraction and Match Camera File Name now support all RED cameras and the Sony Venice. Metadata Extraction uses computer vision to read status information displayed on the camera feed. Metadata fields include Clip Name, Frame Rate, Lens, Iris, ND Filter, Exposure Index, Shutter, White Balance, Color Correction, and Timecode Start/End.

The camera file name can be detected via Metadata Extraction and used for clips recorded in Video Assist.

VTR Reports

Instantly create PDFs with clip thumbnails, metadata, clip info, camera info, and notes for each clip — an ideal way to share print takes with post-production, or generate technical reports at the end of a shoot day.

VTR reports can be easily generated

Multiple Masks

The Mask Effect now supports three separate masks. Easily displays multiple frame lines simultaneously, with independent controls for shading, color, line thickness and more.

Record trigger for Canon cameras is now available

Record Trigger for the latest Canon Cameras

Record Trigger now works with the Canon C50 and Canon C400. All video output display modes are supported. Other Canon cameras using the same output system will also be compatible.

About Video Assist

The idea behind Video Assist is to make professional video tools available to a wider audience. Not all jobs have the budget for a video department, but it’s not only high-end productions that need instant playback or in/out point editing. Filmmakers at every level can benefit from these tools.

False Color

Since launch, the app has received enthusiastic feedback and has a wide variety of creative use cases from DPs, directors, focus pullers, script supervisors, gaffers, VTR operators and VFX supervisors. Automatic Record Trigger and Metadata Extraction are powered by advanced computer vision models. The software handles the heavy lifting, allowing you to use low-cost hardware while maintaining professional-level features. Video Assist works with any UVC capture card to input HDMI or SDI video to your iPad. HDMI capture cards typically range from $20 to $100 USD, while SDI capture cards range from $200 to $650 USD.

Review captured video using the in-built playback tools. You can set multiple in/out points to gauge how a shot will feel in the edit. Playback controls allow frame-by-frame navigation and precise scrubbing through takes when needed. The Playback Browser makes finding and sharing clips via AirDrop effortless, and you can assign ratings to keep track of preferred takes.

Live Compositing

Clean video output is supported for both live video and playback. Connect a professional monitor to your iPad via a USB-C to HDMI/DisplayPort adaptor, or via AirPlay. This lets you control Video Assist from your iPad while providing a clean video feed for director or client viewing.

Users consistently praise Video Assist for its ease of use — the interface is intuitive, playback is instant, timeline scrubbing is responsive and in/out points can be set with a single tap.
